Why can't I select a lower disk amount when ordering a Windows package?

For our smaller packages, if you select the Windows operating system, we may require you select a larger disk option. This will result in an increased pricing, but this pricing is already reflected in all our advertised Windows plan prices.

Why?

Windows uses significantly more disk space than other operating systems. To ensure customers have a good experience and enough remaining disk space, it's best to select a higher disk option.
Windows also uses more disk I/O and per our acceptable usage policy, you therefore need a larger share of disk, so you receive a larger share of disk I/O and have a better experience.

This requirement will translate to a $2 increased cost versus Linux operating systems, on the SSD1G and SSD2G packages.

In the past, we charged an additional fee for Windows licensing, however, now that is free. If you have an old package where you paid for the Windows licensing, if you contact us we can update you to the newer package with the larger disk option for a similar pricing.
